Wife's car is a '98 Punto Team 1.2 in first class nick and with only 62k genuine miles on it. It has been looked after by me from day 1 with oil and filter changed every 6 months regardless of low mileage, no rust and looks great.

We didn't chop it in on the scrappage scheme as it is too good to just throw away and anyway we still take our old dog to the woods in the back.

I last had cambelt and water pump changed 4 years ago and just 25k miles ago. I think 4 years is the recommended period regardless of miles, so its due changing again

BUT is it worth doing? What would you do?

8 valve or 16 valve? If it's an 8 valve and the cambelt snaps you won't do any damage. It's not an interference engine so there won't be any valve collision. If it's a 16 valve and the belt snaps, off comes the head, in go the new valves! And the bill will be scary.

Would you be doing the work yourself? If so, change it. Cheap insurance.
