Technical 1.2 or 1.6

Ahh, my mistake, I thought they would have at least fitted the 16v to the Cabriolet. I think I would still go for the 1.2 8v though, they are virtually bulletproof as long as the cooling system is maintained.

is this the same engine thats in the 12 old bravo as that wore out quickly when push?

Thats a load of tosh... These engines are bulletproof. We have one example from new with 140k miles, we serviced it ourselves and it ran like a clock till the day the car was wrecked.... When I got my car 1st it had dropped a valve and I learned after that the car had mysteriously lost approx 200k miles down to 56k miles. Who ever told you that prob done it for a bet...

The 1.6 is another bulletproof engine but it is only 8v. However my 92 Tempra has 255k miles and the other Tempra spi has 196k miles, 100k of which were ran on lpg. These engines can get very oily as the rocker gasket often leaks and dribbles a drop when hot but enough to make a mess...

If i were getting a cabrio id go for either but the 1.2 will handle better and wont be as thirsty as the 1.6. The 1.2 is also more tunable :)

my 1.2 16v sporting is on around 137k miles, runs very well, and does not burn any oil, and runs very smooth and doesnt tap or anything.

it does have ffsh though, and it is taken through the revs reguarly :p

oh yeah and its on its original gearbox!

and its on its 4th clutch, so that sort of shows how enthusiasticly it is driven :p

i think there is some confusion here. No-one is saying the 1.2 16v is poor, more so the 1.4 12v engine is poor.
