cambelt change

thinking of having my cambelt changed simply because is done around 42k and im unsure when it was last done, tempted to get water pump and fanbelt done at the same time just for the hell of it. its a 1.2 16v sporting.

whats the average price for a cambelt change (incl. tensioner) and water pump?

is it worth having the the fanbelt changed aswell while im at it?

if people can post prices of what they have paid for that work mentioned it would be a big help so i get a good idea of whether the quotes are about right.

cheers
matt

Re: cambelt change

Water pump + timing belt kit + labour = £231.48 for me (on my 1.2 8v punto)

I was thinking of having a bash at this myself in the summer, but erm...my water pump erm...just about fell off!! Seeing as we have no forecasted good weather, and I have nowhere safe (read: sheltered) to do it, having to suck it up and pay up

Re: cambelt change

I was told a cambelt change would cost between £80 - £100 but not sure about the other stuff.

Re: cambelt change

The 16V will cost more to do than the 8V as it needs special cam locking blocks. Check the parts on Shop4parts.

Don't delay as it's very expensive when the belt fails.

£120 labour, so not far off lol

However, they are the only garage I've found in town that can do the work in the time frame required (as in ASAP)

£40 apparently...they're saying 3 hour job. I don't have much choice, as I'm looking at a fortnight + before anyone else will even look at it And I'm going away next weekend lol

no way would it take 3 hours, it takes about 3 hours to do a head gasket & water pump on that engine.
