Re: cambelt change

my punto 1.2 16v belt + tensioner was £30 to buy but that's a Mk1 model.

Garage i'd imagine would be around £250 mark.

And on the belt there are theories between 36k and 72k but imo it depends on your driving. If your doing lots of short runs then i'd go shorter but at 42k unless it's more than 6 years old i wouldn't worry too much about it yet.

Oh and when i did mine i messed the timing up and had fumes coming out the airbox, engine out by 180 degrees on the bottom end. And if the Mk1 engine is similar to the Mk2 engine the "special tool" is a 10mm allen key.

it's a 02 plate with nearly 43k so I think I will have it done anyway, going to have water pump done too. Not doing myself one of those things I wouldn't want to attempt, leaving it to a garage lol

I know someone has mentioned 3hours labour is that about the average a garage would recommend

Re: cambelt change

got timing belt kit and water pump for £71 and have a quote of £138 to have them fitted tomorrow. The quote including parts was £238, but i sourced the parts cheaper worked out even cheaper than shop4parts too.

the Timing belt kit is made by Dayco and the Water pump is QH.

Re: cambelt change

dont seem to bad, just make sure they have the timing tools if they do it without then that price is very expensive cos it wont take more than an hour and would be 'slightly' out of time.

timing tools cost pennies to make for the Mk1 so if it's similar to Mk2 (3 lengths of bar (bottom end) and a 10mm allen key (top end) then £138 for 3 hours labour is about right as it took me 2 hours to do so including paper work + test run then 3 will be better.

Re: cambelt change

10mm alan key can still move enough to mess stuff up, its only £21.52 for a pair of lockers, an you only need 1 so can sell the other
