(G) Punto Dynamic - Burning Smell

Hi,

I have noticed a burning smell for the past couple of days. It smell like rubber.

The smell can be smelt under the bonnet, but quickly disappears when the bonnet in opened and cannot be located.

I have recently had my exhaust changed (after I noticed the smell) and the smell is still present.

I had a look under the car and found that the gator above the exhaust had a hole in it and was dripping onto the exhaust.

I cleaned this up temporarily, but the smell is still present.

I have checked the water and oil and the levels seem OK (even though the oil smells like it has a little fuel in it).

Could anyone advise where to look next?

Which gator has a hole? The inner drive shaft one?

Yes mate, the one directly above the exhaust at the rear of the engine bay.

You will have to get it fixed ASAP because dirt will quickly wreck the driveshaft joint. Sounds like the exhaust was fitted wrong.

Yes, am taking it in tomorrow.

Regarding the fitting of the exhaust, the smell was occurring before the replacement.

Hi, the work has been carried out, but can still smell the burning...

It seem to come from the engine bay when the engine temperature is between 25 and 50 percent on the scale.

Could anyone advise what this is likely to be?

Rubber burnt onto the exhaust pipe is all I can think of. Unless the new one's going the same way.
