Question fuel consumption?

My friend drives Punto mfd 1999 1.2 60 and he wants to know your average fuel consumption in city. He don't know what to do because his one is about 10 lit on 100 km (sorry didn't calculate it on mpg).

Re: fuel consumption?

my old black mk1 1.2 60sx auto done 349 miles using 41.28 litres of fuel
divide 41.28 litres by 4.51 =9.15 galls divide 349 by 9.15 =38.14 mpg

you should get more from a manual one

Re: fuel consumption?

Is that a Mk1 or Mk2 cos I think 99 was the change year. Mine is a Mk2 same spec 1.2 60, Handbook says 50.1mpg it does mainly town driving and returns 49-50 usually, and jumps to 53-55 when I take it up the motorway. I don't drive fast though.

Re: fuel consumption?

My 1.1-litre 55SX only manages an average of 32mpg its got a manual box, K&N air filter, catalytic converter bypass pipe, and an owner with a very heavy right foot!
Bloody car drinks petrol, I'm getting a 2-litre Capri soon and I bet that does about the same mpg...

Re: fuel consumption?

With a K&N induction kit, cat back exhaust and a heavy right foot im gettin 150miles for 20quid of petrol with my 55SX (with a lot of stop start traffic usage + 1or2 extra passengers). Not sure how to work that out to mpg.

My god, thats even worse than mine I uually get around 90 to the tenner (so 180 to £20). My 55SX also has a K&N, and a standard exhaust with de-cat pipe. But I get the same lousy economy whether I drive like an old duffer in a Metro, or like Schumacher with his balls on fire

Re: fuel consumption?

Oh, and on the 260-mile trip back from picking up the Capri, the Punto went through £30 of petrol... exactly the same as the 2-litre Ford. Shocking!

Re: fuel consumption?

Very shocking. Something must be up with our puntos cos everyone else seem to get a whole lot more out of their puntos with higher specs as well.

Re: fuel consumption?

I have noticed petrol smells emmiting from my car latley and many of my mates say then can smell it (ive been trying not to notice is). Ive had a check around and nothing seems to be leaking out of the car.
