Re: Fuel pump not working punto mk2 y reg 1.2 8v

I'm not in a position to take it to a dealer as it's already with a mechanic - the RAC man got it started & followed me down to a local garage (where I usually get any repairs/mot/servicing etc done).

What was the problem/fix on the occasions in the past?

Re: Fuel pump not working punto mk2 y reg 1.2 8v

Can anyone else offer advice as to what may be causing this fault?

Thanks.

Re: is it the crank sensor (yreg punto mk 2 1.2 8v)

Won't be the crank sensor causing it, since the fuel pump is activated for 2 seconds to pressurise the line when you switch the ignition to 'on' you should be able to hear it whirring when you twist the key.

A faulty crank sensor would either mean the car wouldn't start, or you'd get the EML dash light and if not that the car would play up with starting sometimes.

To be honest you should hear the fuel pump kicking in, as mentioned above. If not check your fuel relay!

you have already posted this twice, maybe members just dont know the answer or you will need to take it to a garage like already suggested.

Re: Fuel pump not working punto mk2 y reg 1.2 8v

Turns out it was the inertia fuel cut off switch that had gone faulty.

So how did putting 12v's directly to the pump work then? There would of been no earth?

Re: Fuel pump not working punto mk2 y reg 1.2 8v

Same thing happened again yesterday, car started fine in the morning then went into town, when I came back to it it wouldn't start.

RAC man (same chap as last time) had a look & deduced that it was the fuel cut off switch (this time the thing just wouldn't reset) - Got it started & took it to garage.

Mechanic has come to the conclusion at either he was very unlucky in putting a dodgy switch in, or something is making it go (he suspects the fuel pump giving it too much current).

He's put another fuel switch on for now as this is cheaper than replacing the fuel pump(& finding out that it's not that) - will see how this goes.

Anyone else had similar experience of this type of fault, any comments?
