Best way to prolong life of sump?

I've noticed the sump on my Punto is starting to rust. What would be the best way to prolong the life of the sump? All replies appreciated thanks.

Re: Best way to prolong life of sump?

Best option really is to get a new one

But if moneys tight
Rub it down with a wire brush and/or Wet and dry

Once its mainly clean, wash it and let it dry
once clean, you can apply a substance called Rust Killer, Its a Liquid which you paint on, that will prevent any rust on there getting worse, it usually dries a blacky blue colour, once its dry, simply just respray it a colour you want, but since its pretty hard to see, black will do fine

If its half rusty half paint still, do it all, scrub the pain off, to give an even coverage

Also use High Temp Paint as well, otherwise it will just flake straight off again

Rust eaters is Ok but a palava. Hammerite paints can be applide onto rust. Just steam clene first. No probs.

Hammerite chips extremely easily, so prob not ideal for underside of a car. high temp paint with an underseal would be better.
