| Re: Taking the battery out of my MK1 Try it with a new/fresh battery or if you can try to jump start it - by the sounds of it the battery sounds like it's dead if it can't hold a charge.

| Re: Taking the battery out of my MK1 if the battery won't hold a charge will a jump start still make the car go, untill i can get it to a garage ?

| Re: Taking the battery out of my MK1 Yes, the purpose of the alternator is to supply enough electricity for the engine to work and to charge the battery. It should be enough to get to the battery shop or garage.

| Re: Taking the battery out of my MK1 Yep I'd say it's the battery - try another in it before you take it to a garage. Lights dimming certainly sounds like it hasn't enough charge to turn itself over.

| Re: Taking the battery out of my MK1 Try starting with jump leads, connect leads in correct order etc. If car does start.........get a new battery or have the battery tested. New battery should be about £35ish

| Re: Taking the battery out of my MK1 right, i think that it is not the battery now, because both the booster and jump starting the car won't work so i am starting to think it is the alternator. How much am i looking at to get a new one and to fit it ???
