Question Overheating,headgasket?

Hi guys, my Mk1 Punto 60s overheated at high speed last night. I pulled over and checked the coolant level, it appeared to be way below the min line. So topped it up with some bottled water and drove another 10 miles home with no problem. This morning I checked the oil filler cap and found no mayo and dipstick clean as well. No oil smell in the coolant and no white smoke from exhaust. Does it look like a blown HG? If not, why has the coolant level gone down (it was topped up this time last year). Many thanks in advance!

Re: Overheating,headgasket?

The coolant level does drop slightly over time through normal use.

I suggest you keep a close eye on it, check levels before/after each journey any sudden drops of coolant will point to HG failure.

You could get a sniff or compression test done if you wish at a garage but i would think this unnescersary at the moment as i think you just ran low on coolant. But keep an eye on it just to be on the safe side.
