Re: 8v - 16v

you on about doing a straight swap engine wise 8v for 16v?
as it shouldnt be too hard as you can buy punto's with 16v 1.2ls in already

But if u were on about just swapping the heads and cams and stuff - then IIRC it dont work, there is some issue with alignment meaning you cant swap the heads over

Read the sticky about those chips. They are extremely bad.

Re: 8v - 16v

You be better off putting the 1.4 16v engine in, more tuning potential than the 1.2 16v so would be a more worthwhile swap.

As for the chip, you will be better off with a bespoke remap.

Re: 8v - 16v

What mk Punto is it?

There is a cheap chip available for the Mk1 1.2 8v. It's not perfect, but it will help boost power on a modded engine.. Don't expect to slap it in and get a gazillion bhp though, increases are minimal (but possiblle ) on the 1.2 8v.

If you want to go faster the cheapest option is to sell and buy a 1.2 Sporting or a 1.4 16v Sporting if you can afford it.

No! NEVER get any sort of chip for increasing performance! a bespoke ecu remap after a few well chosen mods will give you a bigger boost AND be mUUUUch safer (but a cost more )

Re: 8v - 16v

yeah its doable, but you need to change, the cooling system, brakes gearbox etc etc, would probs be cheaper buy a 16v engined punt to start with, now why do i not believe this about the cinq??

these chips never work, this topic has been coverd a number of times,

a re-map and GSR would benefit you, am i right in quoting a 6-10% gain??

I was talking about the Critch chip. Safer? I've never heard of anyone having any problems relating to safety with this chip. Yes it is generic so not as good as a remap, but it is dyno proven. And I think it's 35-40 quid, so it's well priced for what it is.

Your ECU is a gel pack one, which can only be dealt with via OBD socket.

16v conversion is not impossible but don not think when the engine is in that the rest is easy. The engine fits on the gearbox, mounts on the 16v do not need to be altered to fit to car.

But the electronic/loom adaptation takes time.
