a chip is a chip in my book dude

but when it comes to cars, why go the cheap option? (unless you have to of course)

I really don't think it's fair to put the Crich chip in even the same category as some of the stupid crap that is available out there.

Well I went with it instead of a remap, as I wanted more engine/exhaust work before getting a custom map. I'm definately not saying its as good as a remap- but your reaction read as if you thought the chip damaged the engine or was generally "bad" for the car.

I wonder if you've ever actually used one of these chips or if as is the norm with wild claims on forums, it is completely unfounded and based upon assumption?

Re: 8v - 16v

Just sell up and buy a 1.2 16v. Will save alot of hassle and insurance will try and bum you because you have done an engine swap to something bigger.

fair one mate. I've not used the chips myself, but a good friend of mine destroyed a lovely mk2 (very similar to my own) with one of those cheap nasties....'twas an utter utter shame...
I'm just hitting out at something I know pretty much zilch about (that critch chip)
I was (aparently mistakenly) branding it as all the other chips..sorry dude
