Boot Lever!

Hi all.

I went to open my boot with the lever earlier, and nothing is happening? I presume its either broke or somethings come loose or something, given my knowledge on cars is appalling lol! Its a 98 Punto S so i was just wondering if anybody knows how to fix them or how to have a closer look?

Cheers in advance

Luke

Re: Boot Lever!

I know they're totally different car, but same happened to my grandad's P-reg Escort Saloon, and it turned out just to be a little switch by the look in the boot which can be used to stop the leaver work, had just slipped accross, so we slipped it back and hay presto.

Have a look to see if there is something similar in your Punto

Re: Boot Lever!

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, it feels almost as if theirs no resistance when i pull the lever. It does feel very light.

If it is a snapped cable, is it hard to correct?

Cheers.

Re: Boot Lever!

if you can still open the boot with your key then it will probably be a problem with the cable either snapped or more likely come out of a securing clip somewhere

if the lock is now also stuck then what has happened is the little lever that operates the boot lock from the cable has become stuck across and not been puled back by the spring meaning it will be the wrong side of the lock when the boot is shut and wedges the hole thing solid

or if someone is holding the boot lever up wile the boot is shut this will do the same thing

if so you can pull down your rear seats and gain access to the inside of the boot you can open it buy pushing the lever with your fingers or undoing the bolts that hold the boot lock in place if it has become wedged in the way i suggested above
