MK2B 1.4 Sporting and torque steer?

Hi, I've got a 2004 MK2B 1.4 Sporting after my 1.2 ELx 16v was taken out by a 50 tonne lorry (hehe), and one thing I've really noticed with the new car is when I put my foot down it feels like it's veering from side to side and I have to hold the steering tight to keep it straight.

Is this something that other 1.4 Sporting owners have experienced too? Or should I get it checked out? Everything is bog standard, haven't done a thing to it yet performance-wise.

New tyres maybe?

Thanks.

I have the same model and never had this problem, mine is standard aswel. I'd get it checked out, though i don't have a any idea what could be causing it

I have the same car but mines been GSR tuned to 120bhp and I don't experience Torque steer even under full acceleration in first gear.

I think your tracking must be out. Go get a tracking and alignment done at a garage as I suspect this may be the issue.

I thought it might be tracking but it doesn't seem to be in any particular direction..

Tires got much in the way of tread left on them? when my old michelins wore down on my mk1 it started tramlining and torque steering but it depends if it does it on good roads then it won't be that it was only noticeable on shat roads

didn't realise they were that tuneable!

If he got an induction kit and remap £359 (unless he got it on the cheap for forum members?).

Tread on the tyres is ok I think.. and I would say it's more noticeable in 1st and 2nd, if at all in 3rd and higher.

Yes thats what it cost . It surprises a lot of people .

I still say its wheel allignment / tracking. It is usually free to get it checked by the way so nothing to loose.

Quikfit jobby?

And surprises.. good or bad? I know the GSR kit is probably the most expensive I've seen, but everyone on here seems to think it's the dogs.. plus on the scale of what you can do to boost the power.. like bhp:£ .. is it better value?

Thanks.

Yes kwikfit should be able to do it.

And yes if your going to spend your hard earned cash on tuning make sure you actually get a gain for your money. I tried alsorts of aftermarket and home brew induction kits none works anywhere near as good as the GSR. If you go to a RR day with FF you can get the remap and kit for £350 I think thats a bargain as Angel tuning charge that just for a remap!.

I went from 103bhp standard (my engine must have been healthy ) to 117bhp and a lot more torque. Its not just the power you got to consider it the overall drivability such as the lack of flat spots etc.

Definitely won't be torque steer... torque steer is remapped JTD territory.

Also personally I wouldn't let Kwik Fit near my car after past experiences with them...

nice, i may look into that, if insurance isn't much more and mpg isn't much less.
