Mk2 Punto oxygen sensors & throttle bodies

Hi all.

Can someone tell me what sort of problems the throttle bodies and oxygen sensors give in Mk2 Punto's. Also are replacements oxygen sensors from motor factors to be avoided or do they perform as well as the original parts from Fiat?

And finally, can individual throttle body parts be obtained e.g. throttle position sensor, MAP sensor etc, or is it the case that such parts are not available seperately, with the whole throttle body needing to be replaced instead?

Thanks

Re: Mk2 Punto oxygen sensors & throttle bodies

We have three of them in the family and one of them is sluggish with a intermittent misfire under load. Plugs / leads / coils have been replaced with genuine (expensive) Fiat parts. Diagnostic code reads show no stored codes and nothing amiss on live data. I'm looking at swapping the oxy sensor with a known good one from one of the other cars which is obviously cheaper than buying new kit at this stage. Failing that it will be throttle body...

Re: Mk2 Punto oxygen sensors & throttle bodies

Your right to replace plugs/leads with genuine fiat parts especially on these cars, I would also recommend genuine lambda sensor assuming this is the fault after swopping one from another punto you have. Obviously this would be the pre-cat sensor.

However misfire under load is normally HT assocated or possibly a valve, if it was the lambda sensor your fuel consumption would be greatly lower.

Throttle body? nah would be one of last things I would look at, although if it occured at a particular engine speed all the time it could be TPS which is available seperately but you need special tool to extract/fit it into the throttle body.

Re: Mk2 Punto oxygen sensors & throttle bodies

OK, update on this fault. I brought the car to a a guy who is a Fiat Specialist and has all the correct diagnostic equipment. There were no fault codes and nothing amiss with the running data. The lambda sensor was swapped with a brand new genuine new one which made no difference. The car is driving better than before, but there is a slight misfire / reluctance to rev when blipping the throttle around 2000rpm when the engine is warm. This fault doesn't happen from cold.

Suspicion is now falling on the throttle body as it may have a fault that is not influencing live data nor generating a DTC code. Anyone car to comment?

unless it's been tried already then i would look into getting some new plugs and test the leads for damage and impedance and such

might be an idea to swap them from your other cars also check that they are the correct plugs

slight misfires don't always show up on the ecu as misfire detection is not al that good and at the end of the day the ecu couldn't tell you why anyway

the throttle body's are pretty reliable the only things that have been known to give trouble (promoted a service news from fiat to replace parts) were the throttel position potentiometers you can test ths with a test meter making sure that the value goes up and down smovely as you turn it and does not jump or drop as you pen the throttle also checking that the second circuit is a mirror of the first as one rises the other falls

the bloke you know with the fiat equipment can also look at the throttle angle from the engine ecu it is shown in a percentage of open from 0 to 100 so that will tell if it's working properly the symptoms do fit that kind of fault
