Hi all

Re: Punto 8v 1.2 Active 1994 edition

I have noticed over the past few days (and sometimes on winter mornings when I've left the car running first thing to clear the ice of the windscreen) that when the engine is idling (especially after about 30 minute journey if you are sitting in traffic or pulled up at home) that a strong petrol smell suddenly appears through the air vents.

I cannot smell this smell outside the car - I have looked under the bonnet and cannot see any visible leaks (nor can I really smell the petrol that badly either). Also looked quickly underneath at the back near the exhaust and cannot smell this petrol there.

Any ideas anyone? It seems to go again when you drive off and doesn't do it all the time when stationary with the engine ticking either..

Very puzzling ...

Cheers for any advice

I also have a similar problem when stationary I get a petrol/exhaust fume smell thru the front air vents. No problems when travelling.
Car is a Punto 1.2 8v 54 reg, done 22k miles.
I took it to a tyre centre last week to get the exhaust system checked and they found no leaks but they advised me to get an emissions test as they thought it might be a problem with the lambda sensor?
Service is due at 24k miles so I'm going to leave it till then.
