| Modding New Car Help Part 2 INDUCTION Just got a new MK 1 Punto 1.2 S Love it!! Took all the airbox off to see how it would sound before induction and it sounded lovely. I am on a budget so I thought I would make the kit myself. I have found a paper cone for £20, but need a 90 degree bend I belive with a Diameter of 105mm (Ist this correct?) and some ally tube to hide the cone behind the battery. Where can I get this tube?? I have looked everywhere and it costs the earth!! Ive found a guy on ebay selling a K&N kit second hand for a PUNTO MK1 for £40 quid including postage but I presume it doesnt come with the 90 degree or tube. ALSO BREATHER PIPES!?!?!?! I have found a Little breather pipe coming from under the Master Air Inlet and a Larger Breather Pipe coming from the head. Is there a valve in the original air box for these or can I just have these connected through some copper tube pierced into my 90 degree bend? Any help would go a treat so any pointers or adviced and I would be most grateful , I'd like to get this done before SKEGNESS!

| Re: Modding New Car Help Part 2 INDUCTION Not really sure where you can get cheap Silicon hoses. You could give Samco a ring or something but they will be quite expensive. As for the oil breather, when you fit your induction kit it will/should come straight off the throttle body so you will need to use a bit of pipe or something simular to run the oil breather into your hosing. I used a proper piece of metal tube designed for this with a couple of washer-like bits to hold it together on my CDA. Again, not sure where you can get these. An easier option would be to get an oil breather filter and just attach it to the end of your breather pipe. However, I have no idea of the disadvantages or advantages of this so maybe someone else could help? Also, you don't really want to put your cone at the back of the engine bay above your engine. All it will do is suck in warm air and you will msot likely lose performance. You will get better results if you put it somewhere it can get more cold air such as in front of the engine bay. To cut a long story short, get a GSR ![]()

| ^^^fool | Re: Modding New Car Help Part 2 INDUCTION any good? the breather should be routed into the intake, this is an mot failure now. ^^^ what he said about losing performance, but if its routed properly it should be quite good....

| Re: Modding New Car Help Part 2 INDUCTION Well most silicone tubing you will find will be extremely dear, as you get what you pay for and not many people make crap silicone tubing. But as its just for induction it dosnt matter about the quality too much, just as long as its airtight ![]() Don't do the K&N method of sitting a conical filter on top of your engine, as above, this will suck in hot air and actually lose you performance and fuel economy. The best thing to do is, like you suggested, to get a pipe and run it to a colder area in the engine bay, with the filter at the end. As for the oil breather, you could simply put a small breather filter on the end, but in order for your car to pass MOT the oil breather pipe must be connected to the main induction filter and throttle body. Here is a picture of my kit, basically this is what you are looking to create: The filter sits in a cold area, getting lots of air flow, and the breather pipe is connected to it. ![]()

| Re: Modding New Car Help Part 2 INDUCTION Did you make that yourself? What Diameter is the 90 degree bend tube>? Is it 105mm as I presumed?? Thanks again for lightning fast responses PS SNAPYOURSTICKS What did you do with the little tiny breather pipe that comes up from the back bottom of the header?

| Re: Modding New Car Help Part 2 INDUCTION I still cant believe its like 20 quid plus for a 90 degree bend!! Im considering using some metal guttering pipe from screwix, be darn site cheaper! Wanna do it on the cheap like junkyard dog style. I could paint it with heatproof paint too!

| Re: Modding New Car Help Part 2 INDUCTION Not much, Oldschool is just annoyed you are not getting a gsr ![]() I dont have another breather on my car, just that one that is connected to the blue pipe. I have a MK2 1.2 8v. I didnt make the kit myself, its a kit for a ford focus but does the job just aswell, and only cost me £40 delivered from ebay ![]() Oldschool is right it will be less effective than the standard airbox if you do not do it right. But as long as the piping and filter remain cold, and the filter has lots of cold air going to it, you will be fine

The silicone elbows might be expensive in comparison with other elbows but there is no comparison for what you get. Nah, this means to make one less, giving me a bit of breathing space. ![]()

It looks just like yours. Im guessing the 90 degree bend is 103mm or did you have to mod yours to get it on. My only concern is what to do with that little breather on the back. OLDSCHOOL , On the GSR Kit is there an attachment for this?
