Awesome choice of car . They are nice have all the running costs of the 1.2 sporting but has the extra power . Very tunable too I have mine Red-Dot remapped with a GSR induction kit and running 118bhp and 92ft plb's or torque.

Not too much to worry about there more refined than the mk2's so most of the niggles and common crap has been fixed . Only thing to watch out is the gearboxes I think they have used the exact same box as the 1.2 and as a result are a bit fragile make sure you keep the gearbox oil changed every 12-15months. Also make sure the clutch bites at about half way up the pedal and check around the gearbox for any leaks. Mines coming up to 52,000miles and im on my third gearbox but mines a bit special I think .

The first one was defected out the factory and failed at 20k the second one was a 'remanufactured' one which was installed incorrectly at a rubbish dealer and broken. Im now on my third and running like a dream .

Re: new punto owner!!!!!

Hey . Yeah don't worry about it . As for lowering I've lowered it on 35-40mm springs from http://www.fastfiat.com. It took a week or so for my suspension to fully settle but now it rules .

As for gearbox oil its a piece of cake. Theres plenty of access to it once you get the car jacked up. There is a alan key plug near the bottom which is the drain and then another plug further up facing the front of the car which is the filler the hole facing towards the sky with the plastic plug in is the breather hole. Just drain (leave to drain for an hour or so) and then refil . Try and get the proper oil from a fiat dealer, its not much more expensive but its the exact oil required for these boxes so its worth it .

And yeah GSR tuning on these cars is absolutly awesome. Lots more power no flat spots it pulls in 6th at 60mph now . I can also get 46mpg-48mpg if I take it easy on the motorway.

Re: new punto owner!!!!!

Got any pics, just want 2 see how low it looks! Hows the ride, handling etc??

Ive been thinking how the panda 100hp wheels would look on it too! I like those wheels and in my head lowered and with them it would look quite good!!!

maybe!

That looks good in those pics, think id have mine a bit higher tho! Think the first thing im going 2 get is a new headunit so i can plug my walkman/ipod in!

Seen a nice sony one with usb, aux input and bluetooth for about 150!

Then lower it then more power!!

Re: new punto owner!!!!!

the 6 speed box on the 1.4s is much tougher than the 1.2 514 in fact it's now fitted to the 1.4 turbo in a more reinforced version and seems to handle the power fine

as for re manufactured boxes from fiat they are done in the uk and i must admit we have had failures after fitting these they seem to be improperly built we opened one and found some cir clip missing on the selector mechanism meaning it had shot 5th selector out the end casing of the box after a rather harsh gear change

as for initial failure from new that's very rare so consider yourself one of a special bunch if this happens to you

to give you an idea in 3 years of working at fiat/kia

i have seen 1 new fiat box fail and have seen maybe 10 repaired buy ma dad on older vehicles 80k

and i have seen atleast 50 gearboxes and transfer cases fail on kia we have one in the work shop right now waiting to go into a sorento just go to a kia forum and ask about sorento and sportage gearboxes your face will drop
