Removing door handles

Hi everyone,

Looking to spray the black handles on my mk2 3dr the same colour as the car. I have sprayed the mirrors etc so i know what to do in terms of the actual spraying, but as there's no space for the car in the garage atm just wondered if anyone knew how to take the handles off? So that i can spray them separately.

Cheers, Sam

It involves taking the door card out from the inside. It's a pain in the arse.

You would be better masking the handles and covering the car with newspaper.

Re: Removing door handles

funny i should see this thread because ive just decided to smooth my handles and paint them black. i bought another set of handles for mine because they are silicone ridden and they are battered and all grey lol.

it might just be easier to get another set of handles then you can take your time with them and not have to rush and then when you have finished them you can swap them for your old ones.

probably your best option if you want a perfect finish imo

true, but he wants to colour code them,so it would be hard to find a pair the same colour as his car..... plus if he get another pair then he still has to remove the old ones....and that can be a real pain...

Re: Removing door handles

Yeah wouldnt be easy to find a set of handles in the same colour as my car.

But i have the paint and lacquer, so i'll just wait until i can fit the car in the garage, mask it up and spray the handles while they're still on the car.

Thanks guys

Re: Removing door handles

All i did was get some colour matched paint from halfords, some primer and some lacquer. Just sand down the mirror with some high grade wet and dry sandpaper, primer, few coats of paint and then a couple coats of lacquer, job done
