Re: sgtlover

engine swaps are all hasle all expensive all a problem when it comes to insurance

please just go buy an 85 sx or elx then you have 85hp

or go the hole hog and just buy a gt then you have 130hp

k

if you really really want to fit something to a mk1 with all fiat parts off the shelf and very little modification then a 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.4 8v 1.2 1.4 16v 1.6 16v 1.8 16v 2.0 16v 2.0 16v turbo will all fit easily thy will all bolt in just fine you just need to sort out wiring and ecus for em all

the biggest engine your ecu and wiring will run with no problem is the 1.2 8v that will go straight in but for 5 hp it aint worth the up in insurance they would much more appreciate you buying one with that engine already fitted

Good advice re the insurance.

But
the 1.6 16v the 1.8 the 2.0 and the the 2.0 16v will not fit easily, no way, not at all. and the fiat parts bin won't make them fit either.

Re: sgtlover

yes it will

ok well maybe not so easily electrics will be a bugger

but the 1.6 16v is the same block as the 1.6 8v sporting so that goes in on those mounts

the 1.8 2.0 litre is the same exterior block to the 1.9 diesel which is the same as the 1.7 diesel as fitted to puntos so thaose will go in on those mounts

so all an be mounted simply from fiat parts

pluming for the 1.6 cooling would need to be custom as the car never had the 16v head

plumbing for the 1.8 and 2.0 litre would be the same as the diesel in fact it shares the same thermostat different temperature mind

electrics would have to be sorted with custom programable ecus

the 1.6 would go on the sporting gear box

the 1.8 and 2.0 litre use the 510 box like the diesel but you would want to bring there boxs in with them for the correct ratios and the extra power but the gearbox cases are the same so bolt right in

and obviously custom exhausts

my point is you don't need custom mounts nor do you need to cut the car thy go straight in if you start with the right car

you would ned a sporting for the 1.6 and a diesel for the big ones

All easy swaps then....

And all those things might look good in your parts book. But I'm talking reality.

The 1.6 16v base block is different as the head mounts differently. It should fit but has anyone done it? The exhaust, the ecu the intake and on.....

If the the disel mounts fitted, strange that everyone who has put the 2 ltr in has made custom mounts, thats because the 2ltr sits way too high on the diesel mount. And of course changing ratios is such a snip, sooooooo easy.

Please don't say its easy its a nightmare task requiring mechanical, electrical and engineering knowledge + access to a full range of tools including basic welding gear. You need much more than your parts catalogue and blarney to do it. Why don't you do it if its so easy? oh and brakes?

So much for easy :bang:

it don't sit to high if you use the diesel water pump for it's mount and mess with some gearbox mounts from the diesel 510 box onto the petrol 510 gearbox

then you can chuck the top steady bracket as the pump mounts it half way up the block instead of down bottom

what i said was easy and can be done with fiat parts was making the engine bolt in nothing else obviously making them run is a nightmare brakes suspension and so on

i mean look the diesel is the same block as the 2.0 petrol so why would it be higher you just need to use the right mounts from the diesel and as i said even the water pump as it brings a mount with it then it will sit in the same place as the diesel and not require the top steady bracket

One of the reasons I so seldom visit this and a few other sites now is they have become home to people who recommend mods they've never done to people who have no idea of what they're letting themselves in for. Result - people repeating misleading and incorrect information about something they know nothing about. If you have some little knowledge - as you and I do - it is important that posts don't mislead. I do know that no one has done this conversion to 2.0 litre using diesel mounts so until its done I'd only ever say 'it should work' not ever, ever its easy. In fact I wouldn't say it because I know it isn't done so until it is proven so its probably wrong. Someone will blow several thousands of pounds on such a statement. And you are responsible.

i'm not recommending anything i'm just saying what's posible with what bits because i know what bits are the same and the fact the blocks for the 2 litre are exactly the same exterior
obviously if someone were gonna take my advice on this they should know it's still gonna cost them thousands to complete at the end of the day
