All the books say that this is a GM Multec ECU, which is the same ECU as a Corsa, Astra etc. Now, my collegue who owns a Corsa was able to do a "paperclip trick" where he shorted out two pins in the diagnostic socket, which made the warning lamp flash in a special way. He was then able to decode these flashes into fault codes. Can the same thing be done with the Punto 1.6 GM Multec system? If so, which pins do I short out? I already have the Multec fault codes. I wouldn't be suprised if Fiat have deliberatly disabled this feature anyway. If anyone knows where I can get a wiring diagram for my ECU, I'd be grateful. By the way, blanking off my EGR valve has resulted in a 2MPG improvement (I have an excel spreadsheet with all the costs). However, there is no noticable increase in power. Posts: 1 Thanks: 0 Trader Rating: 0 | Re: Punto 1.6 8V ECU Fault codes? Hi all, i am new to this forum. I am looking to obtain some info on ECU's. I dont drive a Fiat but an Alfa. I have been having a long running issue that i have been trying to solve for hte last 3 years. I have an Alfa 146 1.6 8v 1995 Boxer which uses the GM Rochester ECU, if i am not mistaken, also known as GM Multec XM. From my understanding some ot the Fiats used this ECU. Also the diagnostic port on the Alfa and fiats are siimilar, 3 pin connector. Can anyone confirm this? I am looking for cables and software that will be able to read this ECU as i have an injector light that comes on only when the engine is hot and under load. It goes off when i stop or coast. If the Fiats and Alfa's use the similar ECU then maybe we could find some software to read the fault codes!
