Hi, just went to get into my car this morning and started the car, noticed the head lights were still on so i turned them off. Then when i went to put the heating on it didnt come on but the dash lights came on, them when i put the heating to zero they went off. Anyone got a clue whats wrong with the heating and how it can be fixed? Thankyou

Hello mate and welcome to the forum!

What model / engine / year have you got? Makes it easier to know where to start that way!

Cheers,
Alan

Ok, this sounds like an earth fault to me. Does the fan motor come on aswell as the lights, or just the lights and no fan?

Alan

EDIT: Somone else is having the same problem as you.... CLICK HERE for link.

Hi, its just the lights that come on no fan, with that other post where abouts is the motor situated on the car because i could have a look if it is the earth wire?
Cheers A1ANT your a great help!! :worship: (y)

The motor is....

If you look in the passenger foot well, and look up as if looking behind the glovebox, you will see a piece of trim. There are two push fit clips holding the trim up. Pull these out, and then the trim should drop down. Behind the trim, you will see a cylindrical black thing, which is the motor for the blower, and its connector.

here are some pics i took to help...

Hope that helps,

Hi, iv took the motor out of my car now, if i turn the heating on with the motor plugged in the dash and side lights come on but when i unplug it they go off, could it need a new motor or is there something else that is wrong??
Cheers

Hi,

try disconnecting the earth from the motor (black wire) and find another earth point for it. Then try your headlights, and fan, and they should work independently of each other.

Alan

Its possible it is the motor, so yes a new motor MAY cure it, but this way you can ensure that its not an earth fault and save yourself buying a new motor only to find it still does it. Electrics eh!

Alan

TRUE TRUE, lol what if i try my motor in another punto will this solve whether i need a new one?? what will i need to do if its not the motor though??
Thankyou

Yea you could try your motor in another punto.(if you can find someone willing lol) If not then just pull the black wire from the connector block and isolate it by wrapping some electrical tape around it. The run another wire from where the black wire went on the motor to another earth point such as a bolt on the chassis, and the see if that solves the problem.

Alan

Hi, Just checked the motor on my mums punto and it works so i fink its the wireing, do you know if this will cost much to get fixed?? or is there another way i can get round it without it costing me much??

for the connector you are looking for...follow the black, yellow & blue wires at top right of that picture.Bypass the black wire at the connector. You do NOT need a motor, when you switch on the heater it is missing its earth so finds it through the lighting system.

Its a common problem on mk2 puntos,1 minute fix.

No i do believe you lol, im just unsure of what you sed i should do, should i just cut the black wire out and not connect it or?? (what do you mean by bypass)?? Sorry lol (y)

pull apart the connector as you probably find it has melted slightly. The big thick black wire is the problem, either cut it both ends of connector & join it up or solder a wire across it or use 'scotchlocks' whatever method you wish.

cut or join a bypass piece of wire at points 'X'.End of the day its the terminal inside the connector thats causing the problem(thick black wire).

I apologise for my aged 6 year old drawing
