| power steering going, going & about to be gone... Help! The power steering module in my Punto is about to expire on me (warning light has been on for months and it failed completely for the first time yesterday). Is this yet another known Fiat problem and is there a cheap way out of it? Thanks.

| FFFTW! | Re: power steering going, going & about to be gone... No cheap way unless you use a refurbished unit - then theres no guarentee how long that'll work for.

| Re: power steering going, going & about to be gone... Well, I did it take it my local mechanic a while ago and he told me that as long as the power steering was unimpared I should leave it alone - warning light nothwithstanding! (I live in Greece and this is how things are done here...). Anyway, thanks for the replies... quite depressing... next time I buy a car and go for style over reliability I will bite myself.

| All Hail the Woodsman | Re: power steering going, going & about to be gone... When a warning light comes on it means something is wrong and to get it looked at and fixed sooner rather than latter. It might be "the way" in greece but it seems stupid to ignore a problem; you may have caused unnecessary and more expensive damage by ignoring the fault and driving the car around over a prolonged period. Good luck getting it fixed, and with your hunt for a reliable car, when you find something better than Fiat let us all know.

| Re: power steering going, going & about to be gone... something better than Fiat? Hmmm.... difficult one.... anything German or Japanese? I bought my fiat new and soon after, the engine management system failed. The dealer I bought it from had told me that there was a certified fiat mechanic on the island - not true. I had to have it sent to the mainland to be repaired. I also since found out that five year guarantee I was told about by the dealer was actually a 2 year guarantee... It's a lovely looking car and drives like a dream but is a fiat worth all the trouble? On the other hand, who wants to drive a yaris.....
