Re: alloys again!!

im just wondering,
my steels on my car at the min plus the trye measures out to be near enough 22.5 inches.
the tyres for alloys they come like 195/?
the ? is normally 45 /50 /55 i think is that the measurement in millimetres for how much they come off the rim of the alloys?
so some 17s with 45's on comes to 20.5 inches near enough so does that actually make the circumferance of the wheel smaller than my standard ones?

cheers
Anfield

Re: alloys again!!

the second figure is a percentage of the first ie; 195/50 the tyre wall will be 50% of the width =97.5mm

Toad knos.

A 195/45 x 16 is a tyre with a 16" bead diametre, that's 195mm wide and has a tyre wall height of 87.75mm (i.e 45% of 195mm).

The size of a 195/45x16 wheel + tyre is 582mm (about 23").

If your motor has 165/65x14 then it is currently 570mm (about 22.4")

That's just 2% bigger so it's perfect (don't go >3% bigger). The speedo will read 2% too slow... but as it's about 5% too fast as standard (to give margin of error) putting a slightly bigger wheel/tyre on it will make it more accurate.
