| Removing A Broken Alloy Wheel Nut Hi Everyone! I've got a problem. 5 months on, after my head gasket going, I'm hoping to get it fixed as well as my m.o.t some time end of this month. Reason for sorting this so late is because of me paying my Uni funds first. Damn Uni, they've cleared out my account! ;) Anyway, problem is one of my front tyres will need changing very soon. I've taken the centre cap off for my alloys and have noticed that of the nuts have broken at some point. What I mean by this, is that the nut is screwed in securing the alloy to the car, but the head of the nut is broken. Is there anyway I can take this nut out, or is this a big problem. If I can't do it, then do you rekon a tyre fitter/mechanic can do it? Cheers for the replies posted. Aziz. http://uk.f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/azizulhye/album?.dir=/80f9

| I remember one of my dad's mates took his 306 into the garage for its first service (from new). It has alloys with locking nuts, problem was when the garage asked for the locking nut tool he didn't have it (claimed it never came with the car). They had to drill out the bolts. Sadly might be the same thing in your case

| Well, I'll have to take another look at it to see if its sheared. If it was sheared, how would a I go about removing it? Would a wrench or something similar take it off? (Oh yeah, I think a wrench is the right tool I've mentioned. I seem to forget the names of some tools, hehe :I) Thanks Aziz. http://uk.f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/azizulhye/album?.dir=/80f9

| oh me gums! | if its sheared enough to get the wheel off, then you can remove the wheel and spray it with penetrating oil over a 1-2 week period and then try the wrench method.if your really stuck you may have to use the drilling method or a quicker one would be to weld a bar to the end of the exposed stud which then can be twisted off The Fiat Cinquecento Fun While It Runs

I can't remember where or what to seatch for on the net but Dave showed somebody one, maybe search forum for "lock nuts" and go through all until you find a post from Dave (i think) about buying one, may/may not be useful? NB: if you find it, check the diametre is small enough for yours ---------- Uno 1.0ie Start. Standard.

| :) | Sorry Dave, looks like I was tired and read it incorrectly - I read the second post I think (assuming it was a lost lock key thing). This isn't the case is it, it's a damaged nut. Sorry. ---------- Uno 1.0ie Start. Standard.

Thanks: 0 Trader Rating: (0) | hey mate, you can do 1 of 2 things to get ur sheared bolt out. Firstly, you can drill a hole throu the centre of the bolt then use an easy-out. This winds in turning the bolt anti-clockwise i.e un-screwing it so i comes out. OR Secondly, if u can see a few threads and can screw a nut onto it, use some loctite and loctite the nut onto the thread and then unscrew the bolt with a socket when the loctite has set. Hopefully this works, good luck Bhoywondar f**kin Italian Automotive Trash!!!

| Fat pigeon... APPLE! | I'd attack it with a drill and a decent set of stud extractors. Punto 55SX ![]()
