(G) Missing gears

MK1 punto 55s P plate only gets 345 and rev. Where did 1 + 2 go.HEEELP!

okies...gearstick moves left then forward for 1 or left then back for 2.

How exactly do you mean it only gets 345....do you mean that you can't get 1/2 to engage....i.e. the stick won't go in for them?

I think thats what there trying to say crabbo.. Sounds like a gearbox/synchro problem.

it moves to left and forward and back but selects 3 and 4 not 1 + 2. had another look the gearbox looks like it has been replaced. it has been bought like this.

Could also be a linkage problem...the linkages have been known to work loose...other than that gearbox/synchro as Punto.power said.

Could anyone tell me how the lever should be pointing, from memory i think it should be facing the rear when in neutral only i think somebody has put a secondhand box in and not set it up properly,hence the lack of movement of lever to nearside. at the moment it is over to the nearside in neutral is this making any sense.I am talking lever on top of gearbox here.

Just to let anynoe else know ,the problem is solved.By taking the selector cover off we found that whoever put the gearbox in connected the selector lever with the cover on,with the cover on the selector lever can drop into the cover and disengage itself from the selector rod.If the lever is connected with the cover off you can ensure the whole thing is in the right place 20 min job !!!

You better hope he had the brain's to replace the thrust bearing while it was off
