Thinking of getting a cd player for my V reg Punto 60 SX (if anyone knows anything about this subject please send me a msg). In the new argos catalogue there's a cassette that you can put into a standard car stereo and connects to a portable cd player (also works for MD and MP3 players). Its only £8 so its a hellova lot cheaper than getting a cd player fitted. if anyones got one or knows anything about it, i.e. the sound quality etc pls reply to this or send me a msg.

i wouldn't especially when you can buy the real thing for under £70

i did that with my V reg punto till i could afford a proper CD player (and then again when some scummy f**kers nicked that). Sound quality was fine (so long as you switch off any Bass Boost the player might have), but it was a pain in the long term as you keep having to store the thing whenever you stop then reconnect everything. Plus, i had to take the cassette adapter apart as it works by playing a short piece of tape thru it...and of course on an auto reverse deck that keeps flipping with a very loud and annoying click every 15 seconds. i just cut the loop inside & it was fine, but it still makes quite a loud whirring anyway.
if you are really skint, it's OK but it will soon bug you. As Donz said, if you can afford it, go for a proper CD player (it only took me 1/2 an hour to fit (but 25 mins of that was just getting the locking bits to engage with the plastic surround!).
Good luck.

Ive had one of those cassette to cd adapters before i got my cd player. I instantley noticed the sound quality was a lot better, and its also much easier to change cds.

I bought 2 cassette to cd adapters and they both broke. The wire connecting the cassette to the cd player was split, this happened on both occasions so i decided to purchase a cd player.

there r some decent priced cd/radios at www.caraudiodirect.co.uk Has anyone seen any better value websites than this? also, how easy (or hard) is it to install a cd stereo, bearing in mind i basically don't know anything about car electrics?

cheers for any responses.

i know sod all about car electrics too. putting a CD player in is a quantity of urine.

1. Take old one out (assuming you have the metal 'key' to get the FIAT one out)

2. Disconnect leads from the back.

3. Connect leads to back of new one (it's all standard connectors so it is literally just that simple.

4. Slide in place.

5. Curse lots while you try and get the plastic surround to clip on.

Hmmmm....is it a MK1 or MK2 punto? if it's MK2 then you'll need to get a blanking plate(?) so it will fit in the fascia.

that's it tho.
