| Cambelt falling off? Hey guys, only got the internet till tomorrow night (at a service station and staying in the hotel) so need an answer asap! Ive driven from Edinburgh down to Stafford (bout 300 miles?) Ive noticed a knocking/clicking noise coming from the cambelt as if its basically hitting against something as it turns.. I've tried putting it back to the middle of the cog that turns at the top of the belt, but it keepts going back off track to about 2/3 on the cog and 1/3 off. Its worrying me , a lot because of the fact it's making the noise, very noticeable aswell. Any ideas how i can quickly fix this? Cheers

| ^^^^^^ | Re: Cambelt falling off? I wouldnt drive it any further mate!! (sorry to be the barer of bad news) Sounds like either the belt itself is on its way out (may have a split in it somewhere) or one of the pullys is not lining up properly. Last thning you want is your cam belt coming off, especially as your doing all those miles! By the sounds of it your not in a position to do much investigation, but to be honest it doesnt sound like something you could fix in 5 mins unless anyone else has any ideas? Sorry i know this doesnt really help you much, but its better than the belt coming off or breaking!

| Re: Cambelt falling off? well to be honest mate, about 50 miles back, i opened up the cover and pulled the belt back on, but cudnt get the cover right off so cudnt get the belt right back on the belt back to the middle... it fixed it for a little while but it pulled back... could it have something to do with heat? cause its done this before when the engine was hot and ran for a while, and it was fine the next morning..

Thanks: 1 Trader Rating: (0) | Re: Cambelt falling off? what punto you got ?? if you got a 8v 1.1 or 1.2 then its a safe engine soo if belt came of wen you wer driving it no damage would be done just have to put new blet back on in correct timing position. if you have a 16v engine then if belt comes off you going to get a large bill for repairs as the internals will hit each other.

| Re: Cambelt falling off? Something must be misaligned, thats the only reason a belt would do that. Whats out of line is the question though?

| Re: Cambelt falling off? May possibly be the tensioner, if the bearings are failing then it may be out of alignment and perhaps causing the belt to move. I cant really see anything else that could fail, apart from the water pump everything else is quite sturdy i think

| Re: Cambelt falling off? well its just done a 80 mile round trip to alton towers and back, and the sound has pretty much gone, just comes back every now and then. think i'll give it a wee risk and fire on home with it tomorrow, keeping it to 70 instead of the *legal* 90 i was doing all the way down here (probably the cause of it lol)

| __________ | Re: Cambelt falling off? it may be safe but you will get a big towing bill if you have no brakedown cover, isnt stafford close to stoke? if so there is a meet at stoke tomorrow where there will be a few people that could have a look at it for you

| Re: Cambelt falling off? Cheers for all the advice guys, turns out that the cambelt cover was actually hitting the cambelt as it was rotating, creating the noise. the cover has snapped at the joint so im just gonna go to scrappys and get a new one. Sorry for any worries i caused anyone lol, it sure as hell caused me a lot of worries! Cheers guys Such a feeble problem, so many concerns lol

| Just another nutter | Re: Cambelt falling off? if the cambelt has been scraping something then its likely frayed. if its got frayed at all then its a good idea to replace it. | ||
