Stuttering problem

I have recently bought a mark II Punto 1.2 (2001) and have started noticing a stutter both when the car is idle and when the revs drop. It doesn't seem to happen when I increase the revs. At the moment it isn't bad enough to cut out, but I get the feeling that it will if gets worse. Does anyone know if this is a common problem and what the possibilities are? I have been told that replacing the leads may help. Many thanks

Re: Stuttering problem

You Could Also Try My Miracle Cure For All Punto Problems. - The Infamous Lamda Sensor.

It May Well Be Worth Ago, As It Wont Cost You Anything To Try & Takes About 30 Seconds. Locate Lamda Sensor On Exhaust Manifold, Between Engine & Radiator (gold Coloured Spark Plug Looking Thing) Trace The Wire To Where It Plugs In, & Simply Unplug It. Then Start Car & See If Tick Over Problem Is Cured ?

It Dosent Upset The Ecu, As Ecu Defaults To A Standard Setting.

Mine Car Has Ran Brilliantly Since I Unplugged The Dammed Thing.

It Might Be Worth A Try....

Do you have a mk1 or mk2? This guy above has a mk2 and what you suggest is very bad!

The mk2 has OBD2 software and it doesnt like this at all and will throw an engine light which can only be removed by a laptop/fiat examiner, even if you plug it bad in.

The 8v is cable driven with an Idle control valve and it is common for this to get stuck when not cleaned.

remove all air piping/box etc run engine at 2k and spray short bursts of brake cleaner in

Must have a Mk1 then, not sure.

Ive been running mine for about a month with lambda Sensor unplugged. All seems perfectly o.k. at the mo, but your worrying me a bit now !

When I get half a chance, im gonna nip down Parts shop & get a new sensor & stick it in myself. Looks pretty straight forward like changing a spark plug?

Do you reckon it will be o.k. for a month or so ?

Re: Stuttering problem

Sorry for not replying sooner and thanks for the replies. I have a MkII. I will try new leads in the next few weeks and see if this helps. I'll let you know the outcome...
