Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

This appears to be only the one that should fit the crank/gearbox/flywheel

Other guesses are Alfa 147 16v clutch or the 2.4 JTd clutch (the first as it a modern equivelant to our engine, the latter as it was built at exactly the same time as our engine)

We need someone who can take clutches out the box and have a good look at them!

Who on here works for fiat?

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

Sorry for bumping this old thread, I was just wondering if there have been any developments on finding an uprated clutch for a remapped Punto JTD?

Has anyone took the plunge and ordered the one from Ricambi Tuning?

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

No and no.

Sorry, I wish it was a better answer than that.

I cant see how a clutch that can take the power cant be the best option? But people keep saying the best option is to shoe-horn in an alfa one.

Anyone had any luck with getting ricambi tuning to realise they are not in fact the KGB and that customers are the only reason they are here SO TELL US WHAT THE BLOODY CLUTCH IS RATED TOO

The alfa one is bigger and OE equipment, so can handle the power and replacements are available from more than 1 place!

You can get uprated units at either the cost of life or comfort.

Having had a clutch that handles more than double the torque (4 paddle ceramic) I would recommend going for the larger oe type.

Andrea from red dot with the 160bhp punto had a hybrid turbo custom mapping exhaust induction etc, he ran the standard valeo clutch and he said this was fine....

Stop booting it at 1k rpm! lol

I dont, not that thats the worst part as peak torque is about 1900rpm.

And I dont want a clutch that I cant boot when I want, I want one that can handle all the 'power' (its only 210ft/lbs!) Know anywhere else that supplies uprated Punto JTD clutches?

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

Get the alfa 16v one!

I don't see why you don't want that? Bigger is better for clutches.

Trucks don't have fancy materials they have clutches as big as its wheels.

You need the extra diameter and its already developed for you.

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

But is the Alfa 16v one a straight swap without any hassle, i.e. do you need to modify anything for it to fit?

What is the torque rating for the Alfa 16v clutch? Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

Well the 147 1.9 JTDm has 225lb/ft as standard, so it should easily handle as much as 250lb/ft. And fitment can't be that much different since the engine is pretty much the same bar a different head...

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

Is there any way of testing this without trying it?

And are we talking just clutch or clutch and flywheel?

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

Anyone heard of http://www.clutch-specialists.co.uk?

he's only producing 155lbs, a mapped jtd produces alot more, you'd need one able to handle 250lbs
have you asked them how good there clutch is and is it a complete kit

Yeah, I've emailed them asking for it's torque rating and any other additional info they can give about it and they haven't replied yet.

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

Sorry to bump an old thread, just thought it might be of interest to some remapped JTD owners. I have found a clutch manufacturer that will build an uprated Kevlar clutch kit for the Mk2 JTD for £250.00 + £10.00 delivery plus VAT.

The company is http://www.highperformanceclutch.co.uk, they also seem to own http://www.clutchmanufacturer.co.uk & http://www.clutchnet.co.uk and specialise in making clutches for trucks and performance/race cars so it might be worth a punt. Also looks like they have been in business since 1980...

I've emailed them asking what the torque rating will be for the uprated Kevlar clutch, will let you know what they say.

Re: Remapped JTD Clutches.

if its a racing clutch it won't be much good for road use as it'll be quite violent and you'll need lot of revs just to pull off

Don't think it will be a race clutch as such, just uprated above the standard clutch, there's diesels out there pushing out 250+ lbft torque as standard and they have normal road clutches on, so surely it can't be hard to make a road clutch that will handle 210 lbft.
