Hi all-checking our oil level today but seems way low-don't know where its gone to be honest -no pools on drive-but should there be a dash warning for low oil level?-thanks

Nope no low oil warning
I've suffered at the hand of this both on my current 2012 and a 2007 grande
Basically you have to check your oil regularly at least monthly but ideally weekly as the fiat engine uses a fair amount of oil (it is documented in owners manual) something like 100ml per 1000 miles cant remember exactly.
Ironically on a previous car i had between my 2 puntos (non fiat ) that engine never used a drop of oil in the 4 years i had it.

what engine..??

the lego-tech dipstick is awkward to gauge..

must admit I've had oil-tight engines,
only an old Strada engine ( from a scrapyard) was bad.. 1 out of 35 aint bad,

the oil light would flicker / come on if the oil was so low it didn't circulate;)

so - how many miles since it was last checked..? and sudden increase in consumption wants investigating.:)

Checked monthly -but I thought the manual says oil level low will throw a dash light up?

The oil pressure light can come on because of very low oil level, but you should not use that as a subsitute for regular checks of the oil level. For Fiats that do have a low level warning, it normally looks like a dipstick (actually looks more like an injector or syringe on a Croma). Even this is a warning and not something you should wait for before topping up.
