Today was service day and MOT.

So after passing the MOT I set about giving the sad a full service.

So all the filters, including the pollen one etc.

When checking the sump I was surprised to see how rusty it has become after just 4 years.
The pictures show it in rubbing down stage, before the POR15 went on.

I have heard tales of premature rot on Punto sumps; now I see what they mean

Does the car have an UNDERTRAY..?

Punto sumps are well known for rotting as you say. I changed one on a Mk1 punto I had years ago. The difficult bit was getting the old one off. They are stuck on with silicon. I noticed when taking off the down pipe how the heat from the exhaust had affected the area on the sump. Seemed far worse there.

I painted the new sump with galvanized paint after treating it with that etch primer acid spray, then a couple of coats of metal paint, can't exactly remember which product. Over the years I kept an eye on my work & although all was fine stone chips were starting to appear again. I remember thinking I should have fabricated some sort of sump guard for extra protection, but I sold the wee car not long after.

Loved my wee Punto & I asked a bit too much out of her from time to time....:)

Apologies for banging on again about safety first when working under your car, but you can't be too careful. You know what to do...:)

Just read in our local paper about a well known family man in our neck of the woods crushed to death when the mini he was working on slid off a ramp. I know it's not the news you want to read about on here, but you just can't be too carefull. Stay safe.

Indeed,
This is why I did not press on with undoing the sump plug on the Croma when it was on axle stands. I use good quality stands on a solid surface but won't apply large sideways force when I'm under the car. It will take the local garage 5 minutes on a ramp. DIY is not worth dying for. It's not even worth a trip to A&E and I speak from experience.
