Looking for some help. I've got a 63 plate 1.4 gbt punto.

The past few days when I turned the ignition on the screen on the dash was going onto the dimmer setting, the car started after a slight struggle. Tonight the dash just went totally blank and the dials we're going up an down like they were on drugs ? the engine started eventually after a few too long seconds but the dash stayed blank then came back to life. When it did tho it had took my mileage down ? after looking and looking for an answer I've had no luck.

The car has been serviced when due and still has low mileage for being a year a half old, 11000.

Anyone any ideas? Coz I'm clueless!

Thanks
Margaret

Hi, and welcome to FF, :)

chances are with lower than average miles, it's battery isn't getting a decent charge regularly,
that lower voltage is why the dash dims, AND struggles to start properly,

does the Start/ Stop tend to only work occasionally..??;)

any decent garage , car parts store , or even kwik-fit type place should be able to test the battery, (y)

you want 12 Volts - minimum with engine off,
and over 14Volts with it running - in case you have access to a volt meter

DO NOT buy a new battery before letting us know what the test results say..,;)

Thanks for the reply!

I had wondered about the battery, that was my first thought. The start stop worked but I don't use it often so it's mostly off, however I had a suspicion about it so have tried it a few times the past week and it just isn't working at all ?.

The cars still under warranty so I'll phone tomorrow and see if they can have a look at it. Hopefully nothing major ?

Will let u know how it goes!

worth making sure the 14 Volt charge is correct though, or you'll be wasting your money on a new battery,

the S/S batteries are @£120 to £150...........DO NOT pay the £200 + from a FIAT dealer - ideally you'll get a replacement under warranty ( for free);)

Well there's the situation today ? wudnt start this morning but the dials were still going mental, the guy thinks it's my battery and the computer because it's putting the mileage down when it doesn't start.

Thought a new car would be less hassle, lasted a year a half without problems I suppose ?

Hopefully find out tomorrow what's wrong with it, they've been told to phone before doing anything with it

All the best with this one Margaret. I'd like to think you will be able to get some sort of assistance from Fiat/the dealer as to be honest the battery shouldn't really be dying so soon in my opinion.

If you bought it new and it's been serviced too then hopefully you will have some luck getting a replacement battery under warranty.

When was your car serviced last by the way?

It was the end of December it was serviced. Garage phoned me today, it's defo the battery, won't take a charge at all so it's getting replaced under warranty.

Should get the car back tomorrow, not really into the 5 door floaty Astra av got to drive the now lol

Will let you know if it sorts all the problems ?
