Ok then...new battery fitted this morning. Car cranks noticeably faster now, I never felt that it was particularly slow to be honest, but there is quite a difference now. So that's good!

No sign of S/S working as yet, however I note from the 500 section that it can take a while to activate again, or in some cases the IBS needs to be reset?

Anyway, work in progress but will keep everyone informed if and when S/S comes back to life!

did they bench charge the new battery then leave it 2-3 hours before fitting to let surface voltage dissipate??

Interesting thread. At work I have access to about 5 Vauxhall Corsas - the oldest being a 12 plate one with 42k on the clock the newest being a 14 plate with 12k on it.

All are 1.3 Cdti with S/S - it works on everyone of them all of the time with no difference on weather or temp of the engine. Considering they are Fiat engines and run on the same platforms as the Fiat it seems more than just battery related.

No idea Andy. I certainly never asked anyway, didn't cross my mind to be honest.

Just to point out though that everything is working perfectly - quicker cranking, no dashboard dimming whatsoever, revs hold steady at all times when idling (they used to dip ever so slightly when depressing the clutch before coming to a complete standstill).

It is literally the S/S element that hasn't worked so far., but there is still time:D

Get one slap it on charge (disconnected from car) once fully charged turn off and leave 2 hours before reconnecting to the car...
(This let's surface charge dissipate )
The car will then learn what a fully charged battery is and switch the ss back on

any progress..??
I'd still get the fault codes read and cleared.. couldn't believe the difference it made with mine:eek:

Evening both!

Purchased the charger Andy mentioned yesterday from Lidl, not sure when I will have time to actually charge the battery but I will give it a punt(y)

Thanks for the comment about the error codes Charlie. I literally got the battery changed before, it never went in for any diagnosis.

It wouldn't surprise me if there was something amiss with the system. I deliberately stalled the car the other day, and the S/S sign flashed up telling me to depress the clutch. But then every time I subsequently pulled up at a junction and put it into neutral, it said "Stop Start unavailable".

But then I did exactly the same a couple of days later, and the stall restart function worked as usual, but then there was nothing at all thereafter when pulling up at junctions (no "unavailable" message).

Meh!:D
