Technical LED Tail Lights

Wrong part arrived but they did not check it :bang: so another 7 days to wait :( they could not apologize enough but still surely they check what they have ordered ? on a positive note it`s a lovely sunny day now.:D

Hi All,

Sorry for the lack of update... work etc got in the way.

Well, I had pretty much the same experience, Arnold Clark inspected the fault and diagnosed it as an issue with moisture getting into the light - suspecting it's down to that "design fault" where the lights mist up because there's no heat being generated by the LEDs to clear it.

Anyway, they said they could not get authorisation (they told me it was Fiat themselves, not a 3rd party they were in touch with) to repair it under the 3rd year warranty.

I have the case reference, so was going to call up Fiat and shout at them until they agreed to resolve it... but, since the car was in the garage... the fault hasn't reoccured

So, whatever they did when diagnosing it, I think Arnold Clark have inadvertently fixed the fault :D Probably nothing to do with moisture, and was actually a loose wire/connection/seal or something.

I'll be keeping an eye on it, and the first sign of it happening again, I'll be on the phone to Fiat.

Cheers,
Chris.

They need to sort this, as someone else on here has had this issue from memory, and I've seen one on the road locally with this issue also, so its not uncommon or unheard of.

Yes your right my previous dealer also mentioned they had one repaired within it`s first year same side as well so that is 4 that i know of with the problem, on the same side!!,mine was diagnosed as a faulty circuit so electrical rather than a bulb/light issue hence why Fiat said yes to fixing it ,if i was you cjdl i would still have it replaced as it will come back to haunt you, mine was fine for a few weeks then returned to 10% brightness once again (y)

Was left hand side on the one I saw the other day (RHD NS/Passenger side). Is that the same side as yours?

In need of some help, I have just had this happen to my wife's car. The car has done 8k miles and just turned 2 years old. Never had a service.

Was at dealers this morning, the car is 5 days out of the fiat warranty but still has 3rd year dealer. A good will claim was placed but rejected.

What are the chances of getting this done on the dealer warranty ? They are telling me the car should have had 2 services etc. (n)

Tell them having it serviced twice would have no affect on the light failing, so they're actually breaking the law in using that as an excuse unless its normally excluded under the 3rd year warranty anyway

Having managed to find the service book it was serviced in December 2013 at 12 months old. It was however done at a private garage.

Does this matter ?

Does anyone know whats actually covered in the 3rd year warranty ?

If you have an engine problem perhaps... but for an LED that SHOULD last the wole life of the car is really taking the client for an idiot ! (xcuse me...).

They have a problem with their rear light clusters, they have to fix this !

Agreed. For a car doing under 9000 miles a year Fiat 'recommend' (seemingly from your dealer they mean 'insist') on an annual service, so it should be about to have its second.

However, 2 services would've made no difference to these LEDs failing, so I'd phone Fiat directly on 00800 3428 0000 and stress the case to them.

Agree with all said above(y) after my phone call they agreed under good will ,maybe if you push a bit harder if you can maybe also tell them you will have a service at the Fiat dealership at the same time ,which i do recommend as low mileage on the car is not always a good thing i always service the car once every 12 months regardless of low mileage, let us know how you get on .

I agree, in any circumstance change your oil after 12 months or your engine will be like this :

But for the LED, keep fighting to obtain what you have the right to have.

TBH thats not what happens as long as its changed as recommended by the manufacture. There will be several other contributors to the condition of that engine, and its gone more than the recommended service intervals for the carbon build up to be like hat.

With the Grande Punto it's 30'000km or 2 years...
2 years can be long, and in some circumstances changing all year it's a lot better (cold weather, short trips, etc).
IF you read the manual, there are some restrictions for the two years, and conditions can make change have to be made every year.
But yes, this is not while one time you keep oil two years you will have an engine like this...

Well, not good news i'm afraid.

The dealership has refused to fix it and fiat have rejected it under a good will thing.

I am still waiting on a response from customer relations. to say i am disappointed in the service i'm receiving is an understatement.

What now ?
Can anyone give details if they managed to get this fixed so i can reference it to fiat ?

I got mine fixed under the goodwill gesture so not sure what you can do apart from keep complaining !! you can offer you will have a service at the same time see if that helps??

I agree with what rkt2003 says.

The bottom line is the light has nothing to do with the service history of the car, and if others have managed to get it fixed then there is no reason why you shouldn't.

However, I agree that potentially arranging a service at a Fiat dealership would be a good plan to try and create some goodwill. The car could probably do with one, especially now winter is on the way.

Don't forget that you don't have to stick to your supplying Fiat dealership. Take a look on fiat.co.uk and see if there are any service/warranty only dealers that aren't a million miles away (generally I have found these sort of dealers to be more customer-focused than the large sales dealerships as of course they can't afford to not have servicing customers). You could arrange for them to service the car and if you butter them up nicely then they might put in a good word for you? You can only try I suppose.

I'm sure if you show a bit of willingness then you might have some luck. But you are going to have to be persistent.
