| Valves noise in Punto HGT Hey , I have a Punto HGT Abarth 2002 in abu dhabi done 150000kms and its still in a very good shape except when its summer here the car goes mad, and break down alot but its properly from the heat. i had to change 8 valves a year ago when the time belt was screwed, and it cost me alot but now when i drive the car and am in second gear and just floor it, i can hear a noise in the engine its like valves cracking. Actually it happens in all gears.. its the same noise if you driving up a hill in a wrong gear and the car dies on you so u have to gear down.. anyone knows how to fix this?

| Re: Valves noise in Punto HGT i don't think its cheap petrol, am using ULG-95 fuel and i didn't have this problem before changing the valves.. i guess the valves needs tuning or something like that.

| Re: Valves noise in Punto HGT It does sound as a diesel car at startup, espically in the mornings ... and i did try flushing the engine before an oil change but nothing happened, some fiat mechanic told me as mentioned here its from the variator is it expensive?

| Burninator of threads! | Re: Valves noise in Punto HGT in dubhai, its probably crap or low octane petrol. I found that in teh east (well anything outside western europe basically) the highest octane I could get for my volvo was 93octane, sometimes 96octane, but it drove just like it did on 93 octane (which was *actually* more like watered down piss). serioulsy look around for some better quality petrol, maybe add some 'octane booster' chemicals to the petrol. And just for general driving when using this bad petrol, DO NOT use full throttle below 3,000rpm, as it will just 'knock' (makes a sounds like the valves messing up and the engine 'hesitates' and doesn't accelerate as well as it should). this knocking is pre-detonation of the fuel and can cause... melted heads burnt' valves and valve seats broken piston rings bent con rods deformed piston bores scorched exhaust ports basically, its bad news
