What does this random warning light mean???

Hi, please could you help.

My Mrs drives a 1.1 Fiat punto and has had little no trouble for a few years.

Now though, a random red light has appeared on the dash. It illuminates towards the far right of the fuel symbol and about 3 inches above the temp symbol.

As there is plenty of fuel in the car, and the light is so far away form the temp symbol I'm confused.

Thought it might be overhaet warning but the light is to random and the fan works fine.

Anyone know what this red light is for????

A friend of mine saw it appear and shortly after his head gasket blew, oooooops.

if it's the little circular light on the same bit of the dash as the fuel guage, then yes, your head gasket is likely to have gone.

but, you say that it lights up red. when lit, is it a symbol of anything??? or is it the same sort of light as the "petrol low" light???

wake up and see the light! www.puntoforum.co.uk

thanks for the help. the light is just a round dot, doesnt appear to be associated with any symbols.

looks like a trip to the garage anyhow.

I had the same problem. Turned out my thermostat was blocked, causing the engine to over heat. End result was a blown head gasket [:(!] Does your heater work ok ie. Blows hot air out?
