Mk2 CD stereo/Changer/Aux input

hi, i'm hoping someone can help me. I've got a mk2 punto 2003 active with a factory fit CD player. I bought a lead which connects the CD-changer input (i don't have a cd changer) to a 3.5mm connector so I can plug in things like an ipod or music player etc. As shown in the pic the blue connector is the one i bought which goes to the 3.5mm connector and i removed the existing blank connector and put this one in its place - it is only using 3 of the 8 pins available. When i try using it, when i push the source button on the stereo it either comes up with tuner or CD (or NO-CD if there isn't a CD in it). It's as if i never put the lead in anyway. Anyone know whats wrong??

Re: Mk2 CD stereo/Changer/Aux input

I'm trying to connect it to my phone which plays MP3's and have got a 3.5mm connector for it etc. My Brother has just suggested it could be that the stereo doesn't recognize MP3's, is this true?? is so what format does it recognise?

Re: Mk2 CD stereo/Changer/Aux input

could be right, anything thats factory fit is normally a pile of poo.
i think cause its a phone, it may not be recognising it unlike a standalone mp3 player like ipod

Re: Mk2 CD stereo/Changer/Aux input

Are you trying to plug it into the cd changer input? I don't think you would get anything out of it unless you plug it in to an aux input.

Re: Mk2 CD stereo/Changer/Aux input

Have a look at this link, i don't know if it will help as it's not the same stereo but it seemed like the same problems you were having. The stereo not recognizing mp3 isn't true as it's not directly from the stereo (you're connecting it as an external device)

Re: Mk2 CD stereo/Changer/Aux input

right, I have had partial luck - i have read in other forums that their standard factory fit CD/radio crashes from time to time and tries to access an optional CD-changer which isn't installed - when this happens in my car, with this lead plugged into the CD-changer input, it actually works as an aux input which is great. Except! it only works when the CD/radio 'crashes'/malfunctions. So looking at that website i might be able to 'trick' the system when i want to use the aux in, however that is a completely different stereo on that website and i'm not entirely sure what to do but i'll give something a go and let you know if I have any luck, unless anyone knows what to do please let me know
