| Awful Noise From Car Rear Hi pals, I own a Fiat Punto 75sx of 1997 and recently (last 2 months or so) I noticed that whenever I go over some bumps or harsh surface a squeeking/sucking noise which seems to come from around the rear wheels. Noise seems to be the same regarding of speed and is really irritating when my stereo is on low volume!! I asked my mechanic and he told me it's normal for some shock-absorbers to make that type of sound. But I am really starting to hate it so is there any way I can eliminate this?

Thanks: 1 Trader Rating: (0) | Re: Awful Noise From Car Rear normal rear noise on mk2 problems are either break cable rubbing on passenger side. or if it only happens when car is full or when pulling away harshly then rear silencer box on exhaust can sometimes catch on rear axle and just needs adjustin.

| Re: Awful Noise From Car Rear Thanks everyone. I had the brake cable and silencer box checked. Both are ok and working fine. Still very much confused.

| blessed are the apostates | Re: Awful Noise From Car Rear did you check the condition of the shock dust covers? if they've perished and dirt has entered it is likely that shock movement will become rought and noisey. a squirt of wd40 will tel you if thats the problem. also check each rear spring is secure in the seats at both ends, if it has twisted out of alingment wiht the seats it causes noise. also check that bump stops are secure and in place as they sometimes foul on things such as the springs if they are not secure and in the correct positon. also if it only occurs over bumps you can get someone to bounce the car while you listen for where the noise is coming from. narrow it down, get it in a corner and then unleash hell on the bugger. i remember a few years ago it took me months of searching to find a rattling noise, in the end it was a nut whihc had somehow dropped inbetween the skins of my rear quarter. dont know where it came from or how it got there but thanks to a magnet rod i got it out, what a great day that was. | ||

| Riding 7cm of the deck | Re: Awful Noise From Car Rear ive got a similar problem with my 98 60s, it has also started to clunk over larger bumps (rear drivers side) does my head in too, is it likely to the springs as they look kinda rusty or is it the shocks

Thanks: 1 Trader Rating: (0) | Re: Awful Noise From Car Rear clunking over bumps is more likely rear radius arm failure. very common on mk 1 infact unlikely any mk1 hasnt had them replaced yet i would of thought
