Steering wheel

Hi, I have not done much car modifications and so I am not too sure on everything.
I want to replace my steering wheel as it is very old with wear and tear.
Iv got a Punto Mk1 (97 model), just want to know how exactly do i remove the steering wheel?
I have found 3 screws on the under side which i removed, but that just removed the underside cover of the dash.

The new steering wheel is a universal fit, have also seen it described as a momo type fit. Can this type of steering wheel fit on directly, or would I need to get a boss kit or something?
Thanks for any help

Re: Steering wheel

hi tere,to remove the steering wheel,1st put your steering wheel in the straight ahead position.remove the horn by undoing 3 allen bolts behind the steering wheel, pull horn off gently and undo the wire.then undo big nut in centre of wheel,24 mm I think. get some one to hold the s/wheel while you undo it with a big bar,9" to 12" should do, you could mark the position of the nut before you slacken it, so you do not under or over thighten the s/wheel if you put the same one back, once nut is of,make a fist with your hands and bang the s/wheel as hard as you can till the s/wheel comes loose.best to hit it at quarter to nine and quarter past three position as on a clock face, that sould get you s/wheel off,you will have to sort fitting the new one out your self, hope this helps.........M
