Thanks: 0 Trader Rating: (0) | sounds like ur tappets since u said that it "sound's like a diesel". My mk2 sounds exactly the same, even worse when its cold! Does the sound go away after you move or roughly 30 seconds? FIAT!!! It Doesn't Move But It Looks Good!!

Thanks: 1 Trader Rating: (0) | yep i have exactly same probolem on my 2001 mk2 sporting my car souns like a diesel when its cold. it goes away a bit when warms up though but can still hear it at idle. think i read that you hear it more when cold as it has hydraulic tappets and you have to wait untill oil has got into them. but they must wear as no way should make that noise from new. doesnt seem to effect the running in my car though. and would love to get it sorted so was quiet.

Thanks: 0 Trader Rating: (0) | took the car for a 45 mins run there, ticking noise still there when i got back (although slightly quieter). Should this tappet thing be something to be concerned with?? The car is still under warranty so it would be good to get it sorted while it still is. Cheers.

Thanks: 0 Trader Rating: (0) | well this is the reply from the mr vardy's garage when the car went in this morning.... Mechanic quote "it sound like the exhaust fumes hitting of the gasket. Personally, fiats are rubbish and I wouldn't buy one" brilliant. Problem no2..... Whole front headlamp lense covered in condensation - worse on one lamp than other.... Garage's response.... Common fault on fiat punto's, all work that can be done to rectify this has been done with the valve etc at the back of the lamps (3 weeks ago was done). Basically nothing we can do about it. Funnily enough - I aint seen one other punto (including my sisters) with this "common fault". Anyone on here suffer from this problem??? Just so I can see how common it is. cheers.

| Moderator | If a Fiat mechanic said that to me I'd be having very strong words with his manager. A letter of complaint would be on it's way as well. As for the Punto lights. It is a known problem. The extra vents should sort it out, any I know of have been fixed by fitting these. http://www.forzafiat.com - the onlin...or Fiat owners
Click here for pictures of my Uno Click here for pictures of my Brava

| Take it to Fiat. They have new thicker seals which allegedly stop it happening. There's a rumour that they drill a hole in the unit as well to let air in but I dunno if that's true. If your car's still under warranty this should definitely be done free of charge, otherwise, it still should really be, if they get all tight ask for a goodwill gesture. | I refuse to take my punto to fiat anymore after they told me my brakepads had months left in them. Two days later on a very long journey they wore out and dug ridges in my discs. No compensation was given but they offered to repair the damage at the normal cost!!

Thanks: 0 Trader Rating: (0) | After speaking to the garage i bought the car from, their fiat dealership and logging a call with fiat directly (to which I have still had no reply 3 weeks later), I have admitted defeat in that the garage are not going to change my lights. Their attitude is that its a common fault and by changing the lights would make no difference as there is every chance it is happening to the other set. I was also told (by the foreman of the fiat dealership) that in no way will the condensation affect the electrics in the car. Fine. Yesterday i decided to open the back of the headlight and dry inside as the condensation was getting beyond a joke. On opeing the back a huge amount of water came flodding out (about a mug full of water). The connectors to the bulb were soaking, as well as the whole of the inside of the unit. I noticed that there is a small drilled hole on both headlamps at the side of them and all the wee rubber hose vents at the back of the headlamp all seem to be working ok - not blocked or anything. I dried the whol lamp out with a hair dryer and sealed the back plate (the one which you remove to replace the bulbs) with silicon. After letting it set for a few hours - took it for a drive in the rain and.......... Back to square one. Condensation built up again - as well as the water in the headlamp. I am really pissed now.[:(!]
