Help Appreciated.

Hiya,

Whole bunch of little irritating things that may lead to something more serious.

I have just bought a 1.6 sporting (1996) so i realise its not gonna be the best car in the world (cost £450) but i wanna make it last as long as poss.

1st thing. missing a vacuum hose attached to the tb. I have the one going to the MAP (i think - its a sensor right next to the fuse box) but one coming off the side of the tb is missing and i cant see where its meant to go to. anyone have an idea, bloody Haynes manual doesnt have the engine in.

2nd, and possibly related, is that I lose power when accelerating. feels almost like the car is pulling extra weight. happens in all gears except 1st but only if i try to accelerate quite hard. I was thinking that this was possibly a blown seal or something letting the pressure escape.

3rd there is a ticking noise coming out of the engine when idle. cant decide if its from the block, the tb or the manifold. but its definately coming from dead centre. gets really quick and loud if the revs go up. no idea. theres no mayo in the cap, no smoke, not getting through any water, getting through reasonable amount of oil but the car is getting on a bit so not sure its a majoy issue.

Seriously any help greatly appreciated. even if its telling me whats not wrong.

Ta

Ed

Re: Help Appreciated.

hello mate, cant help with the missing vac hosebut find another car the same and trace it back, owners may think your weird but will normally oblige and let you have a look under their bonnet,
the other problems you have listed sound like a misfire when under load, ht leads, plugs etc.the ticking noise could be a spark arking to the head or another lead, look under the bonnet when its dark and see if you can spot a blue flash from the leads,
