(T) mk2 power steering

hi guys. i just went to start up my mk punto and the power steering light stayed on and now it feels like im driving a tractor. whats wrong?

Your power steering is dead, I suppose... which effectually means you are driving a tractor if you come back to the car a bit later and try again will it still be on?

1: try the city button if that helps, 2 check fuses and 3 check fluid levels...

Don't think there is any fluid on a Mk2 steering system. They are all electric, so no fluid to check.

Could also check the battery as I have heard people mention that a low battery can cause this problem on occasion. Failing that it is off to either Fiat or a garage with a fault reader (Fiat is suggested) and hopefully they can diagnose the problem. If it is the worst then you may need a new steering column which can can cost a few hundred quid.

Slightly O/T there used to be a sticky at the top of this page that described the steering problem and a host of possible causes/solutions it seems now to have gone.

its looking like im gonna need a new one. the light stays on and you cannot select city mode.is there any quick fix for this?

bba-reman do them £300 exch. also i've been told Andrew Page do them for less but don't know what they are like.
