Fuel Vapour Pipe

Hi, i was wondering if anyone could advise me on what and where the fuel vapour pipe is on a punto mk2 1.2 8v 60.

The thing is, when i look in the engine bay, there is what looks like a disconnected pipe/hose. It is rubber and about 1 inch in diameter and is on the left hand side of the big round plastic air filter cover.

It is sort of like a 3 part hose with a thick piece coming from near the oil filler cap, a smaller one connecting on to something and then this thick one hanging off. When the engine is running, air comes out with a strong smell of petrol. I am guessing it is the vapur pipe, but could you advise me if this is the case and also where do i re-connect it!

Thanks!

Re: Fuel Vapour Pipe

OK so checked a manual and it is the oil vapour vent pipe. I also dont think it is meant to be connected to anything as it is venting to atmosphere.

The only thing is, should it be tucked away somewhere to prevent the fumes getting in to my cabin with the heater on? As i think this is the cause.

??? Any info please

Daniel

Re: Fuel Vapour Pipe

If it is vented to atmosphere it is an MOT fail.

It connects to the underside of the plastic air box, near to where the box connects to the throttle body.

To reconnect it you will have to remove the box in order to see where to connect it, this is very easy, there are two screws holding it on aswell as a spring loaded catch on the front. Disconnect the catch, and take out the screws (one near the front on the right hand side, one near the back on the left), and simply lift off the box, you may have to give it a sharp pull to disconnect it from the throttle body.

Once you have it off, turn it over, and you should see a large hole and a smaller one. The large one is where the throttle connects to, the smaller is where you must connect the loose pipe.

Place the box into the correct position over the throttle body, connect the hose to the small hole, and push the box down onto the throttle body, it should sit in place. Then simply do the screws back up and reconnect the spring clip at the front, job done

Re: Fuel Vapour Pipe

Thank you very much! The problem is now solved - that has been bothering me for ages.

Now just to fix the water noise.....
