punto 1.9 JTD, digital Oil -level check at ignition switch on

When I bought my 2nd hand mk2 2000 fiat punto 1.9 JTD, it came with the manual, which stated, that on a 1.9 JTD, there was an oil level check, which would come up if you turned the key in "ignition" (not starting just yet) and after a few seconds, some blocks would appear where normaly it's odometer would be, and on the left hand side it would say "OIL".

However, I've tried and tried but can't seem to see this OIL message coming up.

Am I doing something wrong or was this feature not implemented on all punto JTD's?

In the dutch manual it is on page 28, about the "Trip Computer". Just after the part about the "LED Error".

It says (and I translate):

Function Oil Level Check (1.9 JTD edition)

The system checks the oil level.

While the engine is switched off turn the key to MAR. The display will show the time and odometer reading for a few moments. Then during 10 seconds the oil-level will be shown. While the oil-level is displayed the information about the headlight adjustment disapears.

What year and edition is yours? ELX as well?

It's in mine and it's fitted to my 2000 HLX

mines a 2000 elx, i dont think you can turn it on/off, it just comes on every time u turn the ignition on.

It's not on my 2002 ELX.

or my 03 dynamic

It's on my 2000 ELX, but it also lies on a regular basis

mine is always spot on

think they scrapped it after 2000, my 2001 ELX doesnt have it either

I have a late 2000 JTD and it does not have this feature.
