Re: bonnet wont close

Hello, and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

How slight was the "slight" bump? lol. Also, have you looked to see if the bonnet catch is broken, or if its just been put out of alignment?

Cheers,
Alan

Re: bonnet wont close

lol the bump seemed in my head to be " oh no my insurance is going to go up or do i see if my hatchback can hold a middle aged woman in the boot " . I was driving through this village down the road that has a primary school always hectic traffic, there was a vw golf infront of me and a pickup infront of her, the pickup slammed on the breaks for some reason and so did the golf, i on the other hand was a mixture of day dreaming and looking at my radio. I hit the breaks but wasnt in time. We got out i apologized, was nice enough said she didnt mind there was no damage, i was waiting for "i cant feel my legs, u git i'm going to take all you've got" but she drove off and i went on.

Later today i thought i'd open the bonnet to see if anything was out of order cos the bumper isnt sitting on right, its like 9 or 10mm lower out, not falling off but just not right. The bonnet lever had to pull on harder than normal to get it to open, then i couldnt get it to shut & still cant.

To be honest i wouldnt know to see if the lever is out of place, the catch looks odd like its not sitting right. When i can post a picture i will

Re: bonnet wont close

Lol! Sounds like one of them days.

From the sound of that i would suggest that the front of the car has bent a bit, and as such the lock isn't lining up properly. Like you say, will be easier to see when you post up some pics. You may just be able to bend it back into place as a temporary fix. I take it your radiator survived? ie no loss of coolant or big puddles?

Cheers,
Alan

Re: bonnet wont close

yeah i think it is just a bit bent, the end of the bonnet looked a bit bent in. if anyones wondering the end of your bonnet with the fiat badge lands sweetly into the back bumper of a vw golf.

I looked at it and couldnt see what was out of place, there from headlight has a catch that bolts it into place which is broken on the left one. Other than that i cant see anything.

I dont think theres any damage to the radiator or anything, at least i hope not.

thanks for the help, i'll post a few pictures when i get to 5 posts

Re: bonnet wont close

I could be wrong but from the first and the third picture you posted it looks likt the lock has been bent slightly downwards i think if you try straighten the lock a bit more it should solve your problem.

Re: bonnet wont close

i looked at the catch but couldnt get it to close, thought you were right about it being bent in but it appears those are at an angle on all puntos. (from looking at pictures of other engines i seen other catches looking similar)

I think the end of my bonnet may be slightly bent in causing it not to shut, for now i've bought myself a chain and padlock to hopefully secure it until i get it sorted.

Thanks for the help
