gearbox update 3 - some advice please!

I've just got off the phone to the garage that has my mk1 55s in.

See my previous posts for details of the problem (gearbox update/gearbox problems)

The garage say that something has come off inside the gearbox and smashed the whole thing up. So they can put a reconditioned gearbox in for 550 pounds!

Is this possible, I didnt hear any crunches or anything when it broke, just worked one minute, then no gear action at all. I really dont wanna be spending 550 on something that didn't happen.

Is 550 a reasonable price for a reconditioned gearbox (fitted)

Please help guys!

550 seems a lot, theres places in glasgow that fit the gearbox for free, as they recondition them £150-£250 depending on the car.it doesnt take much to chew up a gearbox to be honest.look around your local area for re-conditioners or just get one from the scrappys

yeah i agree, surely a new gearbox can't be any more expensive than 550!

Re: gearbox update 3 - some advice please!

I'm looking for a reconditioned gearbox for my FIAT 128 Sport Coup 1100 S (1973) 4 speed.

Nobody knows where to find?

Thank you!
