Rear Spring removal

have got the damper out fine, so i thought it was imple task of lowering the jack supporting the trailing arm to allow the spring to come loose.

well no such luck.

i've let the jack of the trailing arm as far as it can but the trailing arm is not dropping far enough to allow the spring to unseat at the bottom.

i've tried getting spring tensioners in and can't seem to compress the spring substanially for removal

is there something i have forgotten to remove.

there is a little plastic thing that pushes through the bottom end of the trailing arm that seems to be holding the spring in place.

the hayns manual makes no reference to this, would removal of this allow the spring to slip out?

thanks guys, i know i've posted a lot during this suspension overhaul but i do aim to get a guide written for the site for the front and rear full suspension change over!
