(S) Clear indicators

Just got some clear indicators but I can't get the old ones out.
Don't get mad I have read the guide but it mentions pulling a steel ring and then pulling the indicator out. My problem is there is no steel ring The hole in the body work is there for the steel ring and wire to come out of but there just is no wire to pull. I even looked inside the hole and had a good firk but no wire.

Its a punto 55s (97) Any quick help would be cool as I want to do it before it gets dark.
