Fiat's Pedals & Leather Gear Knob

Hello..

I was thinking to replace my existing pedals and gearknob, with (Abarth?) pedals and a new Leather Gear Knob (also Fiat's)..

And I was wondering, is it easy to do it yourself? And what should I be carefull about? (Apperently, the gearknob is the whole damn thing.. With the reverese handle and so on..)

Re: Fiat's Pedals & Leather Gear Knob

It is a Mark 2.. Sorry.. I got the gearknob, no problem.. But the pedals? In Denmark, it is illegal to drill into your existing pedals. Is it nessersay to that for the Abarth Punto Pedals?

possibly.

most pedals require that. and the punto's like most other modern cars have their peddles welded on.

you may need to find some replacement arms (used is fine) and get the abarth pedals welded on.
then they'd be legal and look the part.

Re: Fiat's Pedals & Leather Gear Knob

I believe those pedals are fitted in the punto Abarth as standard. You will probably find a Fiat garage would fit them for you!

In the UK bolted pedals is also a grey area, only legal for track use. These Fiat ones should directly replace the standard rubber ones somehow.

Re: Fiat's Pedals & Leather Gear Knob

the std ones are welded to the arms.

these abarth ones may clip over the top somehow.

or you never know, mk2 pedals may be removable by some kind of bolt configuation, but I doubt it.

Re: Fiat's Pedals & Leather Gear Knob

when I fitted some different pedals, had to drill into the metal plates. Not hard to do if you have the right drill type.

Abarth ones are likely to be the same.

Old gearknob, you just pull off. It can be really tough though. If the new gearknob is 'lift reverse' compatible, then just stick it on. If not, you can remove the spring and get rid of the lift reverse.

Re: Fiat's Pedals & Leather Gear Knob

its just a little spring that you pull off. It's just a protection feature. If you take it off, it means you don't have to lift up the collar when you want to into reverse gear.

I have not taken it off myself, as it feels weird putting it ino reverse without lifting up the collar, but otheres have done it with no probs.

Seriously though, the standard gear knob in the JTD is terrible. What options are there that look good and are a straight fit?

thats got to be the best quote for a signature ever!

anyway, whatever you do, do not buy gearknobs off ebay that come from asia. they look classy in the photo, and have a really cool fiat badge integrated into them, but in reality its a printed sticker stuck on top ah well for £10 delivered i suppose you cant expect much...
